Fierce Educator:
Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy
Affiliation:
Deputy Chair, Department of Management, The George Washington University, School of Business
Being Fierce: Dr. Ayman El Tarabishy has embodied creative thinking for innovative solutions since long before the onset of COVID-19. As the curator of multiple hybrid or blended events and courses at George Washington University (GWU) School of Business, he is known for being one of the main higher education influencers for inviting students to engage with real entrepreneurial opportunities. He both promotes and exemplifies his pedagogical solution of “taking the class and turning it upside down.”
Demonstrated at the recent GW Global Entrepreneurship Conference held on October 29, 2020, Dr. El Tarabishy’s students were tasked with planning, hosting, and moderating a conference that sought to engage entrepreneurial leaders from around the world in a discussion around resilience. Dr. El Tarabishy supports his students as he empowers them to step into the roles of leaders, practitioners, planners, and engagers. The student-led venture welcomed 485 registrants from media channels (Facebook Live, LinkedIn, and YouTube) from 58 different countries. The leading students represented 4 different colleges on GWU’s campus, showing how Dr. El Tarabishy has created value for students of the School of Business but, further, for the entire GWU campus.
Dr. Tarabishy was quoted in the GW news magazine, The GW Hatchet saying, “We have seen truly remarkable engagement and leadership from our GW students, which has shown us how our students have not just responded to the pandemic but how they have taken on a more significant leadership role to help move GW forward.”
Dr. El Tarabishy is a Fierce Educator with an eye for creativity, a type of creativity that enables powerful opportunities for his students and unique solutions for his community. The class is a window to the world, and he brings the world into his classroom to learn.
