Casa Systems and Google Cloud are taking cloud native networking to the next level, partnering to offer a combined product for telcos and enterprises.
The companies aim to provide clients with solutions for cloud native 5G core, 5G standalone multi-access edge computing as well as enterprise private network use cases. Google Cloud and Casa said they’re going to work together to optimize ease-of-use and incorporate features to differentiate their cloud native product from that of other providers.
Casa also partnered with Google Cloud last year to integrate its 5G SA core with a hyperscaler public cloud, in order to deliver ultra-low latency applications.
Jerry Guo, CEO at Casa Systems, said in a statement this partnership will ensure Google Cloud and Casa “remain at the cutting edge with our cloud-native, differentiated software solutions, and that the products and services we offer our customers are best-in-class and can be efficiently brought to market globally.”
“We have been working with Casa Systems for over two years and believe that they have a great cloud-native 5G software technology platform and team, and that they are a new leader in the cloud-native 5G market segment,” stated Amol Phadke, managing director and general manager of global telecom industry at Google Cloud.
Google Cloud has previously touted the importance of cloud-native architecture for telcos. Speaking at Fierce Telecom’s Cloud Networking virtual event in February, Google Cloud’s Gabriele Di Piazza said a cloud native network is cost-effective and provides higher capacity for low latency applications.
The growth of cloud networking is paying off for Google Cloud. The company’s revenue surpassed $6 billion in the second quarter, with Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai stating demand for services remains strong worldwide.
Google, along with Amazon Web Services and Microsoft, helped contribute about $126 billion to the public cloud service and infrastructure market in Q1, as indicated by data from Synergy Research Group.
Casa is also making moves in cloud native networking. It was tapped by Verizon in April to provide 5G core network functions for the operator’s mobile edge compute service offering.
During the company’s second quarter earnings call, Guo highlighted Casa is also working on enhancing its cloud broadband network gateway product. Cable-wise, he said Casa is currently in customer trials for its end-to-end remote MACPHY devices and plans to continue deployment of its cloud native converged cable access platforms core.
