Google adds Application Statistics dashboard to Android Market

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) rolled out its latest addition to Android Market: Application Statistics, a new Market Developer Console dashboard offering new information and insight on Android app installation performance. Writing on the Android Developers Blog, Android Developer Ecosystem manager Eric Chu explains that Application Statistics provides charts and tables summarizing each app's active installation trend over time, in addition to distribution data spanning Android platform versions, devices, user countries and consumer languages. The dashboard also illustrates the comparable aggregate distribution for all app installs from Android Market (numbering in the billions): "You could use this data to observe how your app performs relative to the rest of Market or decide what to develop next," Chu notes.

At press time, Application Statistics data goes back only as far as December 2010, although Google promises to continue updating the information on a daily basis. Chu adds that Google is presently at work on related Android Market reporting features.

The Application Statistics dashboard is the latest Android Market improvement in recent weeks. Last month, Google introduced an online version of the storefront, promising the complete catalog of Android apps--Chu previously said Google is at work on improving Android Market's ranking algorithm in an attempts to make it easier for users to find quality applications, and adds the company will continue investing in its Android Market support staff, building out a team to enforce the store's terms of service and eliminate apps that violate the rules.
