BICS, a wholesale joint venture between Belgacom, Swisscom and MTN, is boosting its presence in Africa with a deal to provide roaming hub services to mobile operator Expresso Group.
The African telco and information services outfit is using BICS’ roaming hub to expand its coverage throughout the region – in particular the sub-Saharan area where it claims to be a market leader. The hub approach is designed to surpass traditional one-to-one roaming deals, and one BICS claims boosts service delivery for operators with fingers in multiple markets.
BICS chief Daniel Kurgan says the deal provides Expresso “with the necessary global reach,” while also affirming his firm’s commitment to the African market.
