Indonesia's PT Indosat has contracted Nokia Siemens to deploy 3G network infrastructure in four regions.
NSN is set to install equipment for what will be Indonesia's first 3G services on the 900-MHz band. Indosat will be offering GSM and 3G services simultaneously over the band, as per the terms of a mobile license granted in September.
The operator is betting on adoption of wireless data services to stimulate revenue growth in a market fast approaching voice saturation. The deployment will cover Central and East Java, Sumatra, and Kalimantan.
NSN will also upgrade Indosat's RAN infrastructure to support the new 3G services, in a deal that also covers support services, including emergency support, hardware maintenance and third-party training.
