Omantel extends MPLS use with police contract

Omantel is growing usage of its cloud-based multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) network through a deal to connect 76 Royal Oman Police (ROP) sites.

The operator has supplied ROP with a tailored service that utilizes a range of bandwidths to match the specific demands of each site connected. The firm claims using cloud technology as a hub means customers can cut costs by ditching leased lines, while also boosting return on investment.

ROP communications director, Ahmed Ali Al Maskary, says the Omantel virtual private network will improve inter-division communication, and boost the security of information sent via the network.

The police contract is the latest secured by Omantel for its MPLS network, adding to current deals with government organizations, banks and large corporations in the Sultanate.
