As part of its push into enabling FMC services, Orange has signed a five-year deal to provide Cable & Wireless (C&W) customers with U.K.-wide roaming services linked to in-building picocells.
The FMC service will see C&W's existing and new IP Virtual Private Network customers equipped with picocells, giving them a private mobile network on campus. FMC customers will then be able to connect to the Orange mobile network when out of range of C&W's in-building mobile network.
C&W secured a low power GSM spectrum licence in May 2006, enabling the company to deploy dedicated mobile infrastructure in buildings using standard GSM technology in picocell form.
