Report: 70% of operators plan to virtualise messaging platforms in next 4 years

A report commissioned by Xura and carried out by Heavy Reading found that 70 per cent of communications service providers plan to virtualise some or all of their messaging platforms in the next four years. The research found that the messaging services that CSPs prioritised for migration to an NFV-based virtualised platform in 2016 were SMS (27 per cent), followed by spam/fraud messaging control (22 per cent), and then IP messaging (21 per cent). CSP also cited product interworking, orchestration and migration complexity as the main technical challenges of NFV implementation. The findings were based on a survey of 72 CSPs from the U.S., Europe, Asia-Pacific, Central/South America, Canada, the Middle East and Africa. Report
