Report: Mobile content revenue to hit $65B in 2016

Annual revenue generated from content delivered to mobile handsets and tablets is expected to increase by nearly $25 billion (€19.3 billion) over the next three years, reaching $65 billion by 2016, according to a new report from Juniper Research. According to the report, growth will primarily be driven by an upsurge in game, video and ebook purchases via tablet devices, tied to increased opportunity for content monetisation via direct carrier billing on smartphones. Juniper found that both free and premium video apps are on the upswing, and consumer gaming spending is expected to migrate from dedicated portable gaming devices like the Nintendo 3DS and Sony's PlayStation Vita.
