Telefonica, Tata strike telepresence deal

Tata Communications continued its aggressive expansion in telepresence yesterday, announcing an interconnection deal with Spain’s Telefonica.

The deal sees Tata throw open the doors of its 15 public telepresence rooms to Telefonica customers, and provides for seamless connections regardless of which carrier’s network handles the broadcast.

Telefonica said the agreement was an important step towards expanding the reach of the service beyond the predominantly enterprise customers who use telepresence today.

Tata announced a similar agreement with BT last week.

Its current partnerships give it a presence in the US, Australia, Singapore, India and the UK, and the firm plans deals in Hong Kong and Malaysia as part of a plan to open a total of 25 public rooms by the year-end.
