Synopsys and Amazon signed a strategic, multi-year agreement aimed at speeding Amazon’s custom silicon development and expanding Synopsys’ silicon IP business into application-optimized designs. The companies said the deal is valued at more than $1 billion.
Amazon will expand its use of Synopsys’ silicon IP, EDA, simulation and analysis tools, and agentic AI technologies as it continues designing purpose-built chips such as Nitro, Graviton and Trainium. The partners also plan to optimize Synopsys software for AWS Trainium and Graviton and collaborate on AI-powered engineering workflows to help Amazon design, analyze and validate chips and systems more efficiently.
Synopsys, meanwhile, will adopt Amazon EC2, cloud storage and Amazon Bedrock to accelerate development of its own IP and EDA products.
Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi said the tie-up reflects growing demand for special-purpose silicon and AI-native engineering, while Amazon executive Peter DeSantis said custom chips are central to delivering better performance at lower cost for AWS customers.
