AWS won a $2.5 billion cloud contract from the U.S. government, teeing it up to provide commercial cloud services to the Department of Homeland Security as part of the department's broader Cumulus procurement vehicle.
The Cumulus scope includes commercially available Anything as a Service (XaaS), covering Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), professional services, marketplace solutions and training services.
DHS previously said it planned to award multiple contracts to individual cloud service providers, including AWS, Google, Microsoft and Oracle. Awards for the remaining cloud companies are expected in Q3, DHS indicated.
