Spectrum has completed a multi-year rural broadband buildout in Somerset County, Maryland, extending its fiber network to more than 1,300 homes and small businesses across the county.
The project included more than 133 miles of construction and represented a total investment of more than $12.5 million, including more than $2.1 million from Spectrum and $10.3 million in state and county contributions.
Doug Underwood, Spectrum’s area vice president of field operations, said the build marks “a significant step forward” in the company’s rural connectivity push and reflects lessons learned from prior deployments. Spectrum said the Somerset County project is part of a broader rural construction initiative backed by more than $7 billion in private investment that will add over 100,000 miles of fiber infrastructure and reach more than 1.7 million new locations nationwide.
Maryland officials framed the deployment as part of the state’s effort to connect all homes and businesses to high-speed internet by 2030.
