Digital Realty is expanding its subsea infrastructure footprint with plans for a new cable landing station at its LAX12 data center in Los Angeles, a project aimed at tightening links between Asia Pacific and North America.
The data center giant said the facility, being developed with Assured Communications, will give subsea cable operators a turnkey site for landing and powering their systems while connecting directly into terrestrial networks and Digital Realty’s broader Los Angeles campus. The setup is designed to combine cable landing infrastructure, colocation and interconnection services in one location, giving carriers, cloud providers and content platforms more routing flexibility.
Digital Realty CEO Andy Power said the project will strengthen “intercontinental connectivity” across the company’s Los Angeles campus and create a more scalable environment for customers connecting across regions. Assured Communications, which specializes in subsea cable systems and landing infrastructure, is supporting design, engineering and construction.
The cable landing station is currently in development and is expected to begin supporting cables in 2028.
