Mediacom taps ex-Charter exec Throckmorton to grow mobile biz

Cable operator Mediacom tapped a former Charter executive to help grow its mobile service, appointing Gavin Throckmorton as Group Vice President of Mobile Strategy.

Throckmorton began his telecommunications career in 2000 with Sprint Corporation in Overland Park, Kansas, where he participated in the company’s management development program and led product teams in both the consumer and business segments. He later led the product organization at MetroPCS in Richardson, Texas, during a period of rapid subscriber growth that culminated in the company’s acquisition by T-Mobile.

He later joined Charter in 2015, helping the operator build its mobile business following the launch of Spectrum Mobile in 2018.

Mediacom, which launched its own mobile MVNO service in 2024, will lean on Throckmorton's background in product management, business development, pricing and packaging and operations as it aims to grow the business.

“His experience developing innovative mobile strategies and his firsthand knowledge of what it takes to build a mobile business at scale will be invaluable as we continue to expand our capabilities and deliver more value to our customers," Toni Murphy, Executive Vice President of Operations at Mediacom, said in a statement.
