Nokia has launched Cognitive Operations (CO), a new platform designed to bring together mission-critical communications, accelerated edge computing and operational AI for organizations that operate in demanding field environments. The company said the platform is aimed initially at the mining, public safety and defense sectors, where maintaining visibility and connectivity can be critical to operations.
The platform is designed to provide operational teams with real-time site and asset intelligence through capabilities including AI-assisted decision support, live 3D digital twins, video analytics, predictive maintenance and autonomous safety monitoring. Nokia said the system can help organizations reduce downtime, improve awareness of assets and personnel, and maintain communications in challenging conditions.
At the core of the offering is Nokia’s Cognitive Edge Node, a ruggedized networking and edge computing platform that combines connectivity, AI-enabled networking and GPU-accelerated computing. The company said the technology extends intelligence to vehicles and remote locations where operational decisions often need to be made locally and in real time.
Nokia is launching the platform with three industry-specific applications. A mining version is available for both on-premises deployment and through Microsoft Azure Marketplace. A public safety offering uses a “Vehicle as a Node” architecture that allows response vehicles to form distributed intelligence and communications networks. A defense-focused version is designed to support secure, self-organizing tactical networks that can share real-time operational information across connected assets.
