Orange has acquired Dome, a private 5G core technology developed by French company Obvios, as it looks to deepen its sovereign connectivity portfolio for defense, public safety and critical infrastructure customers.
The cloud-native software platform is designed to help organizations deploy secure, resilient private mobile networks that can operate independently of public telecom infrastructure. Orange said the Dome technology will support low-latency communications, high resilience, full operational control and sovereign deployment for users in critical environments.
The deal also brings the experts behind Dome into Orange’s teams and strengthens Orange Business’s Defense & Security division, which was created to serve defense, homeland security and other sensitive sectors.
Nassima Auvray, head of Orange Business’s Defense & Security business unit, called the acquisition “a strategic milestone” for strengthening the company’s expertise in hybrid network solutions. She said it will accelerate Orange’s private 5G development and help the company deliver sovereign services tailored to European defense and critical infrastructure operators.
Potential use cases include drone and autonomous system operations, private connectivity for military bases, deployable tactical networks in remote or contested areas, surveillance at ports and airports, emergency services communications and real-time monitoring of energy, transportation and other critical infrastructure assets.
