Steve Saunders:
Right. So, I'm at the Huawei exhibition here in Shanghai, and I'm looking for information about the technology that Eric Xu announced today.
Here's a sign, doesn't seem to be particularly helpful. There we go. Let's follow that. Oh, look over here.
Okay. What we've got here is the physical embodiment of the Huawei AI cloud. This is the hardware system. Now, note that Huawei isn't just upgrading the chips in this for this new sort of AI performance breakthrough. Don't touch it. But it is also adding this new bus system to connect all of the neural processing units. And that, along with some other architectural changes, increases the number of neural processing units that it can put in its CloudMatrix from 384 up to 8,192, which is a huge leap forward, and that increases the compute power per cluster up to a million processing units in the coming years.
And that actually takes this system into the same territory as supercomputers. That is an extraordinary breakthrough for AI.
