Huawei Advances Inclusive Fitness Tech

What does inclusive fitness technology actually require in practice? In this video, we explore how Huawei’s new Wheelchair mode moves beyond symbolic accessibility to deliver functional health tracking designed specifically for wheelchair users. By integrating advanced algorithms into its latest smartwatches, Huawei enables accurate push detection, calorie measurement and rolling workout tracking in real time. Step tracking becomes push tracking, activity rings are redesigned, and reminders adapt to encourage healthy movement based on wheelchair mobility patterns.

Developed in collaboration with wheelchair users and leading universities, the update also introduces a dedicated rolling workout mode that records push distance, frequency and energy expenditure, with detailed post-workout analysis to help users improve performance over time. With millions worldwide relying on wheelchairs for mobility, this launch highlights how wearable innovation can evolve when accessibility is treated as a design principle rather than an add-on.

So, today marks the launch of Huawei's new wheelchair mode, advancing inclusive health and fitness technology by integrating new features into its latest line of smartwatches.

Around the world, nearly 80 million people rely on wheelchairs for mobility, guided by the belief that technology should leave no one behind. Huawei worked with wheelchair users and leading universities to develop advanced algorithms that can accurately detect wheelchair pushes, measure calories burned, and track workout duration.

With just one tap, compatible Huawei exercise watches switch to wheelchair mode. Activity rings are redesigned. Step tracking becomes push tracking and reminders adapt to encourage healthy movement. The watch face also updates automatically delivering a clearer and more intuitive experience.

Huawei also introduces rolling workout mode, recording distance, push [count], push frequency, and energy expenditure in real time with detailed post workout analysis to help users improve performance.

This really is more than just a feature update. It's a meaningful move forward towards making fitness technology more inclusive for everyone.
