Asia's commitment to deploy commercial Wi-Fi networks on a grand scale is leading to inter-country roaming agreements between operators. In the latest news on that front, customers of Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom will be able to roam onto Y5zone's 6,500 Wi-Fi hotspots in Hong Kong, thanks to a new roaming agreement.
Chunghwa's emome and Hinet customers can now use mobile phones, tablets and laptops to access Y5zone's Wi-Fi hotspots via their regular accounts and passwords, said China Tech News. An additional service fee will be charged, however.
Since March 2012 Chunghwa has also had a Wi-Fi roaming agreement with Hong Kong's PCCW, which operates some 9,000 Wi-Fi hotspots. Chunghwa and China Telecom announced a Wi-Fi roaming agreement in 2011, enabling Chunghwa's customers to access China Telecom's 120,000 hotspots.
