Mission-critical communications firm Motorola Solutions will acquire dispatch communications company Avtec Inc. for an undisclosed sum, in a bid to bolster its public safety portfolio.
Avtec offers VoIP dispatch services over land mobile radio and broadband networks. It enables operations centers to connect with personnel in the field using two-way radios. Under the deal, Avtec will provide dispatch solutions for radio network vendors. Motorola has a long-standing relationship with Avtec and has sold Avtec consoles with its MOTOTRBO digital mobile radio products. Motorola plans to sell its product line through Avtec’s partners and will integrate its software suite into Avtec’s console line.
“Avtec’s industry-leading solutions enable business-critical communications across diverse industries,” John Kedzierski, corporate VP of infrastructure and systems at Motorola Solutions, said in a statement. “Avtec expands our public safety and commercial portfolios, allowing us to offer an end-to-end platform for customers to communicate, coordinate resources and secure their facilities.”
The announcement is the latest in a string of public safety-related acquisitions for Motorola Solutions. Earlier this year, it acquired video analysis-as-a-service company VaaS International for $445 million. VaaS International’s image capture and analysis platform is used for automated license plate reading services used by law enforcement.
