AboveNet brings network to i/o's New Jersey data center

AboveNet (NYSE: ABVT) has established network presence at i/o's Edison, N.J. data center, a move that will allow i/o to offer its clients a number of new low latency, GigE network services.

Under the terms of the deal, i/o will extend AboveNet's fiber optic network to provide fully redundant, all fiber access to new and existing customers. New Jersey is a prime location as its the home of many of the largest financial institutions that are looking for new low latency network routes into New York for financial trading.

Anthony Wagner, i/o's President, said that the new arrangement is all about providing another diverse network route from its carrier-neutral site.

"By allowing access to AboveNet's highly optimized fiber optic network, our customers will be able to achieve ultra-low latency while maintaining superior route diversity," he said.

Having already built its fiber network into i/o's data centers in Scottsdale and Phoenix, Arizona, the two providers are hardly strangers.

Of course, AboveNet is not the only carrier that is present at i/o's data centers. The carrier-neutral provider has established partnerships with a host of competitive (Cogent, Cox Business, Integra Telecom, Paetec (Nasdaq: PAET), tw telecom (Nasdaq: TWTC), XO (OTC BB: XOHO) and Zayo) and incumbent operators (AT&T (NYSE: T), CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ)) throughout its multistate footprint.
