Alcatel-Lucent debuts service provider, enterprise customer center in Tokyo

Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) is giving its service provider and enterprise customers a chance to figure out new potential broadband and cloud-based services by opening a new network center in Tokyo.

The vendor said that the Customer Network Center (CNC) has been developed to help customers understand how to build profitable cloud service offerings. In the CNC, Alcatel-Lucent customers can participate in interactive demonstrations and co-creation opportunities that lead to the creation of new business models.

At the CNC, Alcatel-Lucent will feature its CloudBand network functions virtualization (NFV) technology and Nuage Networks, Alcatel-Lucent's "in-house start-up" venture focused on SDN.

Speaking of NFV, Alcatel-Lucent's CNC will extend its Central NFV Competency Center in Naperville, near Chicago, providing remote access via the cloud in Tokyo. By having this capability, customers can conduct demonstrations and interoperability testing of virtualized solutions over the CloudBand NFV platform to support Alcatel-Lucent's Japan NFV/Network Transformation initiative, which is already under way in Japan.

Driving innovation in cloud and software-based networking has been a continual focus for Alcatel-Lucent. In addition to the new CNC, the vendor has been added to AT&T's (NYSE: T) User-Defined Network Cloud program that it initially launched in February.
