BT, probably the leading carrier proponent of provider backbone transport technology, rebuffed reports that it was discovering unexpected costs and otherwise having trouble with its initial PBT deployments. PBT is a fairly controversial carrier Ethernet innovation challenging the dominance of transport-multiprotocol label switching. A handful of carriers are supporting it, but BT's backing and it's early deployments are being closely monitored by carriers still on the sidelines of the PBT/T-MPLS debate. Cost effectiveness is supposed to be one of PBT's significant advantages over T-MPLS, so any early field experience disputing this understanding could prove damaging to the PBT outlook.
