CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) is easing cloud-adoption fears with its Private Cloud offering, a service the telco says offers a combination of public cloud features with the physical isolation, dedicated hardware and security standards required by many large enterprises.
By federating each private cloud instance into the CenturyLink Cloud network for public cloud nodes, users will get one interface for creating and maintaining a hybrid environment that spans both the public and private cloud.
Private Cloud connects with the public cloud running the same technology platform and enables enterprises to leverage other CenturyLink offerings, including network and opt-in managed services for critical applications.
Supported in any of CenturyLink's 57 data centers, Private Cloud can be run by enterprises on the same platform as CenturyLink's public cloud, which provides cloud-management, automation and orchestration capabilities.
This new service is just one of several enhancements CenturyLink has made to its growing cloud portfolio. Earlier this year, it announced a cloud-based managed service and new cloud pricing options
CenturyLink's cloud efforts continue to be a major revenue driver. In the second quarter, the service provider's hosting-segment operating revenues were $358 million, up 3.2 percent from the second quarter of 2013.
