Challenging economy drives SMB interest in managed services

Even as SMBs hunker down during this ongoing financial storm, a new 11-country study from AMI Partners revealed a number of changes in how this segment buys and leverages IT technologies. One of the changes AMI found in conducting the study was increased interest from SMBs in adopting managed services and software as a service (SaaS). AMI found that about 60 percent of the SMB market segment cited interest in managed services, while about 40 percent of the market is interested in leveraging SaaS.

AMI's study also found that SMBs were willing to outsource various IT functions, including storage, security and telecom services to an outside source such as a service provider or value added reseller. While the majority of SMBs felt that the economy was starting to show signs of life, they still are continually looking for ways to "reduce costs and increasing revenues." To obtain these goals, SMBs are looking at IT services and products that can help them operate within the constraints of their tight IT budgets.
