EarthLink gives businesses proactive tool with managed security monitoring service

EarthLink is looking to help its business customers stay ahead of potential security threats with its new Managed Security Monitoring Service.

Using advanced analytics to detect threats to critical IT and network infrastructure, the new service can actively monitor network, servers, routers, Point of Sale (POS) devices, laptops and desktops to detect security events before they turn into disruptive and costly data breaches.

EarthLink is offering the Managed Security Monitoring product with three service levels:

Silver: Now available, it provides once daily security log and event review and escalation.

Gold: Available in the second quarter, it provides 24/7 continuous monitoring with one-hour review and escalation, vulnerability identification scans on customer network, servers and mobile devices.

Platinum: Set to also launch in the second quarter, it provides 24/7 monitoring with one-hour review and escalation, vulnerability identification scans on customer network, servers and mobile devices, vulnerability remediation including patching and/or reconfiguration through integration with either Server Management (basic package) or Unified Endpoint Management.

In addition, EarthLink offers business customers a complimentary Data Breach Assessment Tool designed to help companies identify gaps and offer remediation strategies to avoid data breaches.

By using key factors common among recent major data breaches seen at retailers like Target, the tool uses questions to help identify holes in a company's risk management program and provides a customized report with strategies and best practices to help reduce breach risk.

Developing new products like the Managed Security Monitoring is one way that EarthLink can continue to strengthen its bond with existing and new customers.

It could also use it as a way to increase incremental business service revenues, something that was a challenge in the fourth quarter. During the quarter, EarthLink reported that business revenues declined 4.2 percent to $225.7 million from $235.7 million.
