JDSU expands storage testing capabilities with Finisar buy

JDSU has taken the opportunity to take out one of its optical component enemies by making a $40.6 million cash bid for Finisar's Network Tools Division. Confident that it can complete the acquisition by the end of July, JDSU claims the addition of Finisar's storage network testing capabilities will "contribute positive operating income in the second quarter of fiscal year 2010."

The financial outlook for Finisar's Network Tools Division has been relatively positive, as it generated $44.2 million in revenue during the 12 month period ending April 2009. JDSU believes the Finisar acquisition will give its own testing unit a revenue boost. JDSU reported that in its fiscal third quarter, the company's test and measurement business segment reported $129 million in revenue, a 24 percent year-over-year decline.
