While the U.S. Department of Justice said last week that it opposes network neutrality policy, proponents of such regulation, which would keep service providers from using pricing tiers as a broadband gating factor, aren't quitting the fight.
The Consumers Union and the Consumer Federation of America harshly criticized the Federal Trade Commission, which earlier this summer questioned the need for net neutrality before the DoJ came out against it. The consumer groups strongly urged the FTC to take a more active role in monitoring and regulating the broadband activities of large telcos and cable TV companies. Still, the deck appears stacked against those who favor neutrality regulation, and this could be one of the last major stands.
