Report: AT&T eyes global growth

Are we seeing the return of the international supercarrier? The world's largest teclos have tried it before, either by buying into new markets on their own or aligning with supercarriers on other continents (remember Global One?).

Now, AT&T, which recently has established new footholds in Asian countries such as India and Vietnam, reportedly sees international growth as an increasingly important goal. That would have been unthinkable a few years ago, when most U.S. telcos had rid themselves of any international holdings to focus on domestic consolidation and competition. Now, AT&T and other incumbent U.S. telcos here may be ready to renew those efforts, perhaps driven in part by the interest foreign competitors like BT, Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom and SK Telecom, have in the U.S.
