Hosted managed service provider Savvis (Nasdaq: SVVS) is very bullish about the cloud computing opportunity.
In a study it conducted with IDG and the CIO Custom Solutions Group, Savvis forecasts that three-fourths, or 75 percent of businesses, either are currently employing enterprise-grade cloud computing solutions or plan to implement enterprise-grade cloud by 2015.
As part of its "Enterprise-Grade Cloud Computing Adoption: Trends and Purchase Requirements" report, IDG Research Services and CIO Custom Solutions Group surveyed 172 CTOs, CIOs and IT managers in various geographic regions.
Despite all of its promise touted by Savvis and other large service providers, cloud computing the concept is still relatively nascent for many enterprises.
Although the study revealed that 64 percent of the enterprises survey expect to increase spending on cloud-based services, issues over finding the right cloud service and security continue to be an issue. Sixty percent of the survey respondents said that it was either "extremely or very challenging" to get a cloud computing service that fit their business needs, while 62 percent said security was a key concern in adopting any cloud service.
