SPOTLIGHT: AT&T telework out-cry continues

After Network World's recent report that AT&T was scaling back its once highly-touted telecommuting program, the magazine yesterday published a follow-up with feedback from employees and non-employees on the company's move. AT&T is predictably getting more jeers than cheers for cutting back on the program.

At least one source in the story suggests it's because in the aftermath of SBC's acquisitions of AT&T and BellSouth, which created the "new" AT&T, the SBC philosophy against telecommuting is winning out. Accusations of hypocrisy and backward thinking abound, but with AT&T's broadband ambitions succeeding and its stock surging, I'm betting the complaints won't ruffle many feathers at AT&T corporate.
