The Congressional beat has been thick with telecom news in the last 24 hours. While one committee sought testimony from telcos in the federal government's domestic wiretapping scandal, the House of Representatives Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet entertained a plea from Sprint Nextel CEO Gary Forsee to do something about the wholesale special access fees that ILECs charge competitors to terminate calls on their networks.
Forsee's complaint was basically a refrain of what dozens of CLECs and other competitors already have told the Federal Communications Commission, though Forsee also specifically blamed the consolidation sprees of AT&T and Verizon for the pricing blow-up in the special-access market. Is a special access price cap anywhere in the industry's future?
