In what must qualify as a Web 2.0 shocker, the Pew Internet & American Life Project says a recent study showed that 39 percent of teens use landline phones to talk to friends on a daily basis--a higher percentage than use cell phones (35%), instant messaging (28%) or any other form of communication. This report comes on the heels of predictions that average household spending on cell phones and services is about to surpass that of the landline.
Could both of these observations be true? In the rush to declare landline dead and teenagers the rulers of a universe in which traditional communications is five years ago, perhaps we are missing the reality of the situation. Times are changing, but maybe not as fast as everyone thinks.
