Verizon Business' newly appointed President Fran Shammo said one of his major goals for 2009 and beyond was not only to change the perception that Verizon Business is just a network company, but to also continuing to expand its international presence. That effort appears to be paying off as the Metro Ethernet Forum granted Verizon Business the European Carrier Ethernet Service Provider of the Year Award for Service Innovation.
In recent years, Verizon Business has expanded the geographic availability of its Ethernet service suite, including its Virtual Private LAN service (VPLS), Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) and Ethernet Private Line (EPL). Verizon Business has expanded its Ethernet access network capabilities in EMEA as part of an ongoing global network expansion program and launched support for 10 GigE speeds in London and Paris with its Storage Private Line product. To enhance its off-net Ethernet reach for its global customer base, Verizon Business has been expanding its partnerships with other European service providers. To date, Verizon Business has established partnerships with more than 100 service providers with various third-party carrier options available in each country.
