3G iPhone going for cheap

The iPhone is now going for cheap. Germany's T-Mobile is offering Apple's 3G 8GB iPhone for $1.55 given subscribers sign up for a monthly service plan of about $107 per month. The 16GB version will cost about $31 with the all-inclusive data plan that costs nearly $138 a month. The move follows 02's announcement in the U.K. that it would offer a free 3G iPhone for subscribers who sign up for service plans costing between $88 and $146.50 per month.

Given the fact that iPhone customers tend to use more data than other Web-based phones, operators appear to be banking on the move as one that will secure heavy data users on long-term contracts. Still, AT&T is subsidizing the phone in the U.S. to sell for $200.
