Alcatel, Lucent shareholders approve merger

After weeks of unrest from some analysts and speculation over whether shareholders would approve the merger between Alcatel and Lucent, investors on both sides of the Atlantic voted in favor of the marriage. Lucent told its investors that votes representing about 2.3 billion, or 52 percent, of outstanding shares voted in favor of the deal--not exactly a winning endorsement. Alcatel's shareholders voted in favor of all the necessary resolutions in Paris.
