- Boldyn appointed a new European CEO
- The company is bringing private network specialist SML under its own brand
- Analysts think the company is expanding in the private network space
Private network system integrator Boldyn has reshaped its European management as the company gets deeper into the global private network market.
The new organizational structure sees Andrew McGrath appointed as CEO for the integrated Europe business, alongside his Group Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) and Hong Kong responsibilities. Antonino Ruggiero, CEO Italy, Klaus Nagora, CEO Germany and Mikko Uusitalo, CEO Private Networks Europe, will lead their respective markets, reporting into McGrath. Andrew Conway has been appointed CTO Europe, to drive Boldyn's Mobile Private Networks (MPN) technology development.
The company is also integrating Smart Mobile Labs (SML) under the Boldyn name. The German private 5G specialist was bought by Boldyn in January 2025.
What the analysts say about Boldyn
Analysts are recognizing that the system integrator is becoming a global private network player. IDC has recognized Boldyn as a “major player” in the IDC MarketScape: European Enterprise Private 5G Solutions 2025 Vendor Assessment report.
“Boldyn plays a growing role in the private 5G ecosystem,” Stefan Pongratz, Dell’Oro VP, told Fierce in an email. Notably, Boldyn has claimed to Fierce before that multi-operator neutral host is “way ahead” of U.S. deployments.
"They certainly have global ambitions,” said SNS Telecom & IT’s 5G research director, Asad Khan, said an email to Fierce. “In the U.S., Boldyn is a very well-established player in the neutral host DAS and public cellular tower infrastructure segments.”
“Some of Boldyn's U.S. private wireless deployments covered in our database include the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas; Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California; and its own innovation center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Plans are also underway to deploy private networks at select MLS (Major League Soccer) venues. Previous trials have taken place at New York's Times Square and at one of the city's subway stations," he added.
We’ll see how the private network aspect of Boldyn’s private network business develops over the rest of 2025.
