Ericsson has appointed Christophe Van de Weyer as head of its Business Area Global Communications Platform and CEO of Vonage, marking a leadership change aimed at advancing the company’s communications platform and network API strategy. He will also join Ericsson’s Executive Team.
Van de Weyer currently leads the Business Unit API organization at Vonage, which Ericsson acquired in 2022. According to Ericsson, he has helped drive the company’s efforts around programmable networks, communications APIs and enterprise digital transformation, with a focus on profitable growth in Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) and network APIs.
The leadership transition follows the decision by Niklas Heuveldop to step down from his role as head of the business area and CEO of Vonage effective August 15. Ericsson said Heuveldop will remain available through the end of 2026 to support the transition.
Ericsson CEO Börje Ekholm credited Van de Weyer with helping return the API business to growth and said his appointment reflects a planned succession process for key leadership positions.
Heuveldop, who first joined Ericsson in 1993 and has been a member of the executive team since 2016, oversaw the restructuring of Vonage and efforts to restore growth in the business. Ericsson said those initiatives strengthened performance and helped refocus the company’s communications platform strategy.
Van de Weyer said he sees further opportunities to combine AI, data and APIs with network capabilities to support enterprise customers and accelerate growth.
