Nokia tests UMA handsets in Finland

Finland's northern city of Oulu is reportedly the first in the world to try out UMA technology. Fifty families will trial Nokia's 6136 handsets, which switches between WiFi, VoIP access and standard GSM when not in range of a hotspot. The handsets will allow users to dispense with their landline phones as long as they have WiFi at home and will save users minutes on their mobile plans where applicable. Nokia chose Oulu of all cities in its homeland partly because the city invested in a free WiFi network that spans across the city center.
