The Qualcomm-Nokia saga continues this week as Qualcomm rejects Nokia's $20 million licensing payment, which was for licensing patents in Q2 and not those patents at the center of Nokia's ongoing licensing fee spat with Qualcomm. Nokia responded to the rejection by publicly disputing statements made by Qualcomm that it does not use Nokia patents. Nokia claims that if Qualcomm's products comply with industry standards, then it needs access to Nokia's products. The 2001 licensing agreement between the two companies expired on Tuesday. The disagreement over the renewed contract relates to licensing WCDMA technology and Nokia's desire to pay less for the licenses than it has for the last six years. The companies say they are still in negotiations over the licenses.
