The ongoing integration of WAN technologies into PDAs has pushed shipments of the devices to a record high last quarter, according to a recent report from Gartner. Global PDA shipments topped 3.7 million units in Q2 of 2006, a 2.7 percent increase year-over-year. Interestingly, vendors that are not among the first-tier a year ago generated much of the growth in the sector this time around. Gartner says it was the highest PDA shipment total of any Q2 on record. Last week we reported on IDC's latest research into handheld shipments, which have been falling steadily over the past 10 quarters.
