T-Mobile USA will announce next week its second phone running on Google's Android platform. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the phone will be called myTouch 3G and will be made by HTC.
The report, which cited people familiar with the matter, follows recent statements by T-Mobile that it will launch a new Android phone early this summer. A T-Mobile spokesman told the WSJ that the carrier would be making a more detailed announcement soon.
The myTouch 3G is essentially T-Mobile's version of HTC's previously announced Magic, which--unlike the T-Mobile G1--does not have a physical keyboard. The myTouch 3G's navigation buttons and trackball are in the same place as the G1, and it will have a voice-activated search function and will record video.
The carrier, which so far is the only U.S. carrier to offer a phone running Google's mobile platform, has indicated that it will add two new Android handset partners in 2009. Google has said it expects at least 18 Android phones to be on the market by the end of the year.
In other Android news, Huawei unveiled its first Android phone, the U8230, at the CommunicAsia 2009 show in Singapore, and said it would be released in the third quarter. The company has previously voiced its intentions to bring an Android phone to market.
