Rumor Mill: HTC to unveil 'Maple' smartphone at CTIA

HTC will likely unveil one of its new smartphones, code-named "Maple," at the CTIA Wireless 2009 tradeshow next month in Las Vegas, according to a DigiTimes report.

The Taiwanese handset maker talks with four major U.S. service operators (all four Tier 1 operators?) for joint marketing for the phone. The phone, which is supposed to look very similar to an early Research In Motion BlackBerry device, is also said to be similar to the Samsung BlackJack and Motorola's Q-Series phones. If the company is in talks with all Tier 1 operators, it either has not settled on a radio technology for the phone or may be making CDMA and GSM versions of the phone.

HTC is said to be ready to launch a series of phones in the United States this year based on Windows Mobile and Google's Android platform.
