- Hackers reportedly exposed personal information tied to nearly 4,000 Trump Mobile users
- Leaked data allegedly included names, contact information, home addresses and order details
- The incident follows an earlier security flaw involving the Trump Mobile website
Reports are circulating that a Trump Mobile data leak exposed the personal information of nearly 4,000 people, including the cybersecurity boss who works for the Trump Organization.
A dark web criminal cyber group called BYOD claimed credit for the leak, telling International Cyber Digest that they first infected a Liberty Mobile employee.
Specifically, BYOD told PCMag that they installed a remote access Trojan on the employee’s device, creating a way to remotely hijack their computer.
Data published last week included names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses and order details of 3,615 Trump Mobile users, according to Straight Arrow News.
Among the information that was exposed was that of Eric Brunnett, VP and chief information officer at the Trump Organization. No information on Trump family members appeared to be exposed, according to the publication.
Fierce reached out to Trump Mobile for comment and will update this story if we hear back.
Trump Mobile was announced last year amid great fanfare by President Trump’s sons Eric and Don Jr., timed to coincide with the 10-year anniversary of Trump’s first presidential campaign.
Trump Mobile previous data leak
It’s not the first time a security flaw has been associated with the Trump Mobile brand.
Earlier this year, two YouTubers claimed that their data was leaked from the Trump Mobile website.
The flaw was fixed, but only after information showed the company had about 10,000 unique customers – rather than the 590,000 customer estimates that were making the online rounds.
Are Trump Mobile phones really real?
It’s unknown how many people paid a $100 deposit to get on the list to receive the T1 phone, the gold version of a smartphone that Trump Mobile sells. The phone took on several different variations since its initial debut.
It’s not even an entirely done deal that the Trump Mobile phones have shipped to everyone that ordered one.
Fierce and multiple outlets reported in May that the Trump Mobile T1 phone was shipping (with a few hitches). At least outlets like NBC and CNET were able to get the device. The Verge eventually got one, too, and posted their review here.
