Virgin Mobile USA this week offered its first new prepaid pricing plan since the MVNO launched in 2002. The new plan offers customers who use a higher number of minutes per day a cheaper calling rate. Under this new plan, customers pay $0.35 each day to receive 10-cent calling minutes all day long. Once opted in, the customer's account is charged $0.35 cents per day to get the lower rate. The customer is charged whether or not they use the minutes. Some analysts claim the new pricing system is a way for Virgin to generate recurring revenue from its better-performing customers.
