Wherify Wireless will sell its highly publicized Wherifone GPS Locator phones under an MVNO business model with service from PetroCom and a retailing deal with Toys 'R' Us outlets nationwide beginning Oct. 1. The Wherifone GPS Locator Phone is designed for pre-teens and seniors and retails for $100. The device's basic service plan begins at $20 per month.
Wherify's move loses steam though. It comes after a significant delay during which the company re-engineered the product twice and now operators like Verizon, Sprint and MVNO Disney have a head start start in the child-location and family connectivity market.
