- Qualcomm is using the Network X 2026 show in Vienna to showcase its AI-native broadband products
- The company appears to have something for everyone – from fiber to fixed wireless and everything in between
- Among the highlights: the Dragonwing Security and Management (SAM) framework for enhanced network visibility, security and subscriber experiences
It’s unclear exactly how much AI is impacting traffic on U.S. mobile networks today. During T-Mobile’s Q2 earnings call, T-Mobile CTO John Saw said they had not yet seen the expected surge in mobile traffic due to AI, even though mobile traffic increases every year to support mobility and fixed wireless access (FWA).
Still, everyone anticipates the AI-generated surge will come, including the product teams at Qualcomm, which today unveiled a bunch of solutions across FWA, Wi-Fi 8 and fiber. The announcements coincide with this week’s Network X 2026 in Vienna, Austria.
At Network X 2026, Qualcomm Technologies is demonstrating “how advanced connectivity, edge AI, intelligent services and next-generation broadband infrastructure can work together to help operators deliver richer subscriber experiences,” as well as improve operational efficiency, expand broadband reach and “unlock new opportunities for innovation,” said Gautam Sheoran, SVP and general manager, Connectivity, Broadband and Networking, at Qualcomm Technologies, in a press release.
That sounds like a tall order. According to Qualcomm spokespeople who briefed analysts and members of the media last week, they’ve got a lot up their sleeves, including a new product category called Qualcomm Dragonwing Security and Management (SAM).
SAM is designed to help operators deliver differentiated subscriber services, deepen customer engagement and create new opportunities for value-added services.
“We're really uniquely positioned to help service providers extend the role of the gateway beyond connectivity, differentiate their offerings, and in turn create more value for their subscribers,” said Eve Danel, senior manager, Product Marketing at Qualcomm.
Here are some other highlights from Qualcomm’s press materials:
- Qualcomm and GFiber, formerly Google Fiber, are showcasing how the Qualcomm Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite Platform is “helping redefine the role of the broadband gateway.” The GFiber Wi-Fi 8 Premium Gateway is designed to support GFiber’s symmetrical 20 gig broadband services and combines concurrent quad-band Wi-Fi 8 connectivity, a dedicated Qualcomm Hexagon NPU and penta-core CPU to enable AI inferencing and intelligent services directly on the gateway.
The Qualcomm Dragonwing FWA Gen 6 Elite Platform is designed to help operators extend intelligent, high-performance broadband beyond the reach of the traditional wired networks. It’s built on Qualcomm’s X105 5G Modem-RF and combines 5G Advanced, integrated non-terrestrial network (NTN) capabilities, agentic AI and tri-band Wi-Fi 8.
Of note: The Qualcomm X105 5G Modem-RF is built on a 3GPP Release 19-ready architecture designed to help lay the technical foundation for 6G. “This forward-looking architecture brings greater spectrum flexibility and a path to higher-performance broadband experiences as networks continue to evolve,” according to Qualcomm.
Bonus: It comes with support for advanced uplink and carrier aggregation capabilities.
- The Qualcomm Dragonwing Point-to-Multi-Point (PtMP) Platform and Dragonwing Point-to-Point (PtP) Platform are designed to deliver high-capacity wireless connectivity across a range of deployment scenarios. Both platforms leverage licensed spectrum, including millimeter wave.
